No More Mean Girls: An Evening with Katie Hurley

Friday, Feb 2, 2018

5:00pm – 7:00pm

“No More Mean Girls” An Evening with Katie Hurley, 2/2, 5:00-7:00pm at Essex Library.

Parents and girls in elementary and middle school are invited to join us for an important community conversation about empathy, compassion, friendship and resiliency.

Katie Hurley, LCSW, Child & Adolescent Psychotherapist, nationally-recognized parenting expert and keynote speaker will talk about her newest book, No More Mean Girls and share insights from her research and work with families and adolescents.

An evening for parents AND girls, we will talk about how to be true to ourselves (even when its hard), how to handle conflict in a healthy way and how to stand up for others.

In this fast-paced world, young girls are exposed to negative behaviors on TV and social media from the moment they enter school and they are becoming caught up in social hierarchies much earlier. When girls acknowledge that they possess positive traits that make them interesting, strong, and likeable, the focus shifts and their self-confidence soars; “likes” lose their importance. Katie’s new book offers actionable steps to help parents empower young girls to be kind, confident leaders who work together and build each other up.

Light supper will be provided and Katie’s books “Happy Kids Handbook” and “No More Mean Girls” will be available for purchase and signing!

Limit: 50 people
